Research published
The Iraqi Journal of Mechanical Engineering and Materials in Issue No. 2, Vol. 17 of 2017, published two research papers on materials engineering, the University of Technology. Assist. Prof. Dr. Akram Rahim Jabr.
The first research (synthetic and magnetic properties of nickel-ferrite nanoparticles) dealt with the microscopic structure of the fiber produced by the electrospine method for solution polymer (PVP) by addition to nickel nitrate and iron nitrate to formation of fiberglass nanometers nickel-ferrite, which were studied using electronic microscopes SEM and X-ray examination and proved a phase transformation from random to syntactic depending on the temperature of the burn as well as the magnetic flux measured by the magnetic vibration scale.
The second research (Nanocomposite membrane from Titanium Dioxide - Nylon 6 to improve the discharge of salts under low pressure for water filtration of nanotubes) . Study the procedure of the electrospine Nylon 6 with nano-titanium oxide. The membrane had a nanoscale network with a radius of 123 nm and the properties of the contact angle, wetting, mechanical tensile, water purification, antibacterial and salt repellant were improved.

The thesis study use of polymer reinforced by fiber as an alternative to reinforcing steel. reinforcing rod are manufactured by using long glass fibers (reinforced material) and unsaturated polyesters (base material) with 1% methyl acetone peroxide by a manual process similar to continuous molding. . Reinforcing rod of the composite material with a diameter of 12.5 mm, which is equivalent to half of inch, which is more common in construction applications after many attempts of using different types of glass fiber. The surface finish of the reinforcing rod of the composite material was two types (smooth and the other rough by sand treatment to increase bond strength between reinforcing material and concrete). The results showed that the tensile strength of the composite material was high and the bending properties were acceptable at the expense of the bending coefficient. Compression strength was within a close range of all concrete samples, this is due to the fact that the concrete itself shows high compressive strength as well as reinforced concrete with coarse sand-coated material rod showing high compression resistance due to increased compression coefficient. The bending resistance of the un-reinforcing concrete is low and the reinforced concrete with the reinforcement rod of the coarse sand graded material shows a significant improvement in bending resistance as a result of increased bonding with the concrete and higher interaction from iron-reinforced concrete at the expense of bending coefficient.

The thesis study developing properties poly methyl methacrylate PMMA by using different types of natural fibers (Bamboos and swak fibers) as reinforcing phases. The fibers are treatment alkaline with sodium hydroxide to improving bonding between the matrix and fibers. Different weight fractions fibers’ (3, 6, 9) %wt., and different lengths, (2, 6, 12) mm, had been used to in this study. Mechanical properties include: tensile strength, elongation percentage, young modulus, bending modulus, fracture toughness, hardness, and roughness, physical properties include: density, water adsorption percentage, thermal properties, and other characteristic tests such as: FTIR, DSC, SEM, had been performed. The results show that tensile strength, young modulus, bending modulus, fracture toughness, maximum shear stress, hardness, water adsorption, thermal diffusion, and thermal conductivity increase with increasing fibers’ length and weight fraction for both types of natural fibers. On other hand impact resistance, specific heat, and density decrease with increasing fibers’ weight fraction, while elongation values at fracture decrease with increasing fibers’ length.
This thesis had been scientific evaluation by assistance Prof Dr. Mohsen Abed Allah Abed Hussein / Baghdad University / Engineering College/ Mechanical Department and linguistically by Prof Dr. Arkan Khalkhal Hussein / University of Technology/ Mechanical Department. The discussion of the thesis had been performed at the Fadul Attya hall, and the discussion’s committee agreed to award the student master degree.

Abdulraheem, Eng. Hiba Anwar Abdullah) entitled: (Mechanical properties of composite materials reinforced with ceramic particles)
The polycyclic methyl methacrylate resin material was prepared by hand lay-up molding. Mechanical properties of hardness, tensile properties (maximum tensile strength, elongation at fracture), shock (shock resistance, fracture strength) and shear stress were examined.
For mechanical properties, the composite material (Acrylic + 7% ZrO2) has the maximum hardness of Shore D (72.4), the maximum strength was obtained from (Acrylic + 7% ZrO2) is 33.75MPa, while the elongation at fracture decreases with the increase in filler concentration and less value was (Acrylic + 7% ZrO2) compared to other composites. The shock resistance was higher than (83 J / m2) of (Acrylic + 3% ZrO2) compared with other composites. The fracture strength of the layers increased with the increase of zirconia particles and the highest value was 2.998 MPa/m. Bending resistance and shear stress increased for composite materials with the increasing of Zirconium oxide at 7wt% (81 Mpa) and (1.8 Mpa) respectively.

"Manufacturing of alternative materials resistant to erosion and corrosion of aircraft structures, ship fans and marine craft consisting of nanomaterial composites"
In this work, it was prepared an anti-erosion and corrosion-resistant composite consisting of pure polyester reinforced with (fiber glass, Kevlar fiber, carbon fiber and carbon nanotubes) subjected to the same conditions that the outer parts of the aircraft, ship fans and marine boats exposes, with similar salinity and fine particles collisions with external structures and so on.
It has been noted significantly that the samples resist degradation, which can be taken advantage of these alternative materials to be cheap, light and anti-corrosion materials under conditions that may be exposed to. Also it can be manufacturing these structures with long life materials more than one time. Also it is clean, green and environmental friendly.
