The Department of Materials Engineering, on a voluntary humanitarian initiative, provided the orphanage house of Flowers of Al-Alawiyyah by presenting Eid gifts and drawing a smile on the faces of the orphans, with a donation from the teaching staff and employees of the department, on Wednesday 4/19/2023.

The Department of Materials Engineering discussed the graduation Projects of the students of the fourth class of the Undergraduate studies, on Monday, 22/5/2023, from nine o'clock in the morning until twelve o'clock in the afternoon, in a number of department halls.

The Department of Materials Engineering concluded its tenth cultural season on Wednesday, 10/5/2023, with a closing ceremony that was held by the Head of the Department  Asst. Prof. Dr. Hussein Alaa Jaber, where certificates of appreciation were distributed to the chairman and members of the tenth cultural season committee. The department head praised Efforts made for the success of the cultural season. At the end of the ceremony, a group photo was taken of the participants in the cultural season.

The Department of Materials Engineering held intellectual competitions for the students of the department within the activities of the fourth day of the tenth cultural season, on Wednesday 10/5/2023. Two teams from the fourth- and second-year students were participated. General questions were asked and the fourth-year team won the competition. At the end of the competition, medals were distributed to the two participating teams and prizes awarded to the winning team.

The Materials Engineering Department at the University of Technology grants a master's degree to the student, Noor Ali Nasser, in the Materials Engineering Department at the University of Technology for her thesis entitled "Enhance the Silicon Solar Cell Efficiency by Nano Thin Films Coating." The discussion was held in the Postgraduate Studies Hall in Building B in the department on Wednesday, April 19, 2023, at 9:00 am. The discussion committee consisted of:

After the examination committee registered their comments on the thesis, which were distributed between explanation and correction, and after the defense of the student for her thesis was completed, the committee adjourned to evaluate the thesis. They decided to grant the student a master's degree with a fulfilling grade.

Abstract

The research aims to manufacture silicon solar cells and improve the efficiency by deposition of nano-films of TiO2, ZnO , enhancing the efficiency of the solar cell using nanotechnology. Silicon cells were fabricated using the pulsed laser deposition technique with different thicknesses and a constant temperature of 300 ˚C and a laser pulse (250) using laser energy (700,800, and 900mJ).
