Abstract:

The aim of this study was to use novel technique of very low-temperature sintering named the cold sintering process to produce highly dense of hydroxyapatite and hydroxyapatite-polyetheretherketone (HA-PEEK) nanocomposites.

Nano hydroxyapatite (17-35 nm) was prepared using two different routes: synthesis by chemical precipitation method (HA1) and natural source from boven bone (HA2).  Nano HA- PEEK composite was fabricated using two different routes: The direct mixing and dissolution methods(using toluene and tetrahydrofuran). The sintering temperature, pressure, holding time, and PEEK content were selected as the production parameters. The optimum cold sintering parameters for producing dense Nano HA and nano HA-PEEK composite samples was determined via using the Taguchi method.

It can be concluded that cold sintering is a good process for densifying ceramics and composite with little energy consumption. All samples exhibit excellent hydrophilicity. Furthermore, the HA-PEEK composite exhibited good pre-osteoblast cell (MC3T3-E1) adhesion, spreading, and proliferation. Histological study indicate a new bone formation with osteocyte cells around all implants after 6 weeks of implantation.

As part of the activities of the eleventh cultural season, and in cooperation with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Department of Materials Engineering organized sports competitions for the department’s students

This competitions held on Wednesday, 3/6/2024, at ten morning on the football field, in the presence of the Scientific Assistant, Prof. Dr. Kazem Matar Shabib with participated a number of the department’s students, in order to recognize the importance of practicing sports and enhancing the sports spirit among the department’s students.

At the end of the competitions, the Scientific Assistant, Dr. Kazem Matar, distributed medals and symbolic gifts to the winning students.

As part of the activities of the eleventh cultural season, the Department of Materials Engineering held an awareness seminar entitled “The Role of the Media in Combating Extremism”

The seminar held on Wednesday, March 6, 2024, at nine o’clock in the morning in Hall No. 4 / courtyard of Building A,

The Seminar was presented by Eng. Iman Kazem Hamza, in the presence of the head of the department, Prof. Dr. Jawad Kazem Aliwi and the scientific assistant, Prof. Dr. Kazem Matar Shabib and Mr. Administrative Assistant, D. Laith Waddah Ismail and a number of the department’s teachers and students.

The symposium aimed to clear the importance of the media and the importance of its role in various areas of life and in all aspects of educational, cultural and security life, as the media aims to combat extremism and violence among young people in particular and find ways to prevent and treat it.

At the end of the lecture, the head of the department praised the remarkable efforts made by the teaching staff. Iman Kazem and honor her with a certificate, and a shield of excellence.
