A scientific field trip

The General Materials Engineering Branch, under the leadership of Mr. Jamal Jallal Dawood, Assistant Professor, along with Mr. Nizar Jabbar Abdul Ridha and Mr. Ammar Musa, conducted a scientific field trip for second-year students to the National Company for Chemical and Plastic Industries on Sunday, April 30, 2023. The purpose of the trip was to observe the company's operations, gain practical experience, and educate students on manufacturing and production processes. During the trip, four of the company's facilities were visited, including:

Plastic waste recycling plant, where the methods used in plastic waste recycling and how to handle it were demonstrated.

Single-use plastic container production plant, where the manufacturing process and the recycling of waste resulting from the production were shown.

Water tank production plant, where the stages of water tank production and the internal coating process were explained.

Pallet production plant, where the machines and equipment used in manufacturing and the benefits of pallets in packaging and storage were demonstrated.

At the end of the tour, Mr. Mohammed Hadi, the company's general manager, met with the students and explained the company's operations and available resources.

The Department of Materials Engineering held an awareness symposium entitled "Cyber Extortion Crimes" within the activities of the third day of the tenth cultural season on Tuesday 9/5/2023. The lectures given by three employees from the National Security in the presence of the department head, Assist. Prof. Dr. Hussein Alaa Jaber. The symposium included the types of electronic extortion and its risks, and the importance of taking care and caution in an opening vague and unknown links. At the end of the seminar, the head of the department thanked the lecturers for the valuable lecture and he distributed certificates of appreciation to the lecturers.

The Department of Materials Engineering held a voluntary campaign to plant the department's gardens as part of the activities of the second day of the tenth cultural season, with the participation of a number of faculty staff and students of the department, on Monday, 8/5/2023.

In addition to scientifically evaluating the dissertation by Prof. Dr. Ali Munther Mustafa/ University of Technology/ Department of Production and Minerals Engineering, and Prof. Dr. Haider Hassan Jaber/ University of Babylon/ College of Materials Engineering, and linguistically by a Asst. Prof. Dr. Jamal Jalal Daoud/ University of Technology/ Department of Materials Engineering

After the discussion committee recorded its observations on the thesis, which were in between explanation and correction, the student's defense of her thesis, and the end of the discussion, the committee decided to evaluate the thesis, and decided to grant the student a master's degree with a Pass Grade

Abstract

The thesis aimed to study the effect of coating layer on biological behavior and bacterial activity of Magnesium implant, as well as to study the effect on surface properties, wettability and ion release rate of Mg ions. Surface pretreatment methods was used for Magnesium implants which are (Laser pretreatment and Chemical pretreatment), and then the surface was coated with composite layer (Polycaprolactone matrix reinforced with MgO Nano-powder with different percentages (0.5%, 0.75%, 1%). The result was that the use of surface pretreatment methods improved the surface properties and enhanced the adhesion between the coating and the substrate. Also, the use of coating material (PCL + MgO Nano-powder) enhanced the biological activity and anti-bacterial effect of magnesium implant, in addition to reduce the ion release rate.
