ٍAward a master's degree to Mohamed Hamed

The Department of Materials Engineering at the University of Technology awarded a master’s degree to Mohamed Hamed Maseikh, Department of Materials Engineering/ University of Technology, for his tagged dissertation (Studying the Development of Erosion Resistance of Al- Cu Alloy by Surface Treatments)

The discussion was held on the discussions hall / building C / Department of Materials Engineering / University of Technology on Monday (15/11/2021). The discussion committee was formed of the teaching staff listed:

Position in the Committee

Assist. Prof. Dr. Fadel Abbas Hashem

Assist. Prof. Dr. Najeeb Salman Abtan

Assist. Prof. Dr. Ahmed Amid Zine El Abidine

Prof. Dr. Ali Hussein Attiwi

Assist. Prof. Dr. Jamal Jalal Daoud

The dissertation was scientifically evaluated by Assist. Prof. Dr. Bahaa Sami Mahdi/ University of Technology / Production and Minerals Department, and Prof. Dr. Kazem Kamel Rassan  / Al-Mustansiriya University/ College of Engineering/ Department of Materials Engineering and linguistically by Assist. Prof. Dr. Mayada Rahim Issa/ University of Technology/ English Language Center.

The main objective of this research is to acquire high tribological surface properties by improving the hardness and erosion resistance of alloy 2024, and to study the effect of heat and surface treatments on the hardness and erosion properties.  Several heat and surface treatments were applied.  These treatments are annealing, solution and aging treatment, plasma nitriding, and duplex surface treatment, which includes plasma sputtering followed by plasma nitridation.  The microstructure, hardness and mechanical wear resistance of this alloy were checked before and after each treatment.  An erosion tester was manufactured locally to measure the wear resistance of this alloy.  X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, and Vickers hardness were used to characterize the results.  The results showed that each treatment differently affects the microstructure, wear resistance and hardness of this alloy.

The discussion of the dissertation was conducted in a scientific atmosphere and a master's degree with grade of pass was awarded to the student after the completion of all the corrections that have been decided by the examiners.
