Defense of master’s student Aveen Kanaan Bower

A master’s student “Aveen Kanaan Bower” defended her thesis entitled "Preparation of Recycle Composite (Zn – Al) Alloy Reinforced with Hybrid Nano particles" on Tuesday, March 16th, at the conference room C/ Materials Engineering Department/University of Technology. The Committee included:

  1. Professor dr. Imad Saadi Abdulkarim - as a chair.
  2. Assistant Professor dr. Hanaa Arir Smeech - as a committee member.
  3. Dr. Ahmad Mohdafar Hashim - as a committee member.
  4. Assistant Professor dr. Niveen Jamal Abdulqader - as an adviser.
  5. Assistant Professor dr. Ahmad Ameed Zainelabideen - as an adviser.

Assistant professor dr. Payman Suhba Ahmad/  Koya University reviewed and characterized the dissertation by the methods of science, whereas Assistant Professor dr. Sameer Ali Ameen / University of Technology/ Mechanical Engineering Department reviewed the dissertation linguistically to meet the style of English. Congratulations to the student on her graduation.

Abstract:

This study included the stir casting process that was used to manufacture the recycled materials of (ZA-12) composites with different weight percentages of nanoparticles and with using of aluminum scrap (AA 2024), pure Al (electrical wires) and zinc scraps. Mechanical tests results confirmed that the hardness and the compression increased with increasing the hybrid nanoparticle's percentage, whereas the wear rate decreased as the reinforcing materials was increased. Since nanoparticles restrict dislocation movement, the mechanical properties are enhanced.

The high hardness was obtained for the composite (ZA-12/(3%BN+3%SiC)). With increasing the addition of nano (BN and SiC) particles to the zinc - aluminium matrix, it has been observed that wear rate values have steadily decreased.

The result has revealed that the compression strength improved in certain situations with an increasing weight percentage of the nano ceramic particulates. The highest increase that is in (ZA-12/ (3%BN + 3% SiC)) composite, and the least being in (ZA-12) alloy.
