- The Department of Materials Engineering, in collaboration with the Center for Nanotechnology and Advanced Materials, hosted an awareness symposium titled “Enhancing National Heritage Identity” on Thursday, October 19, 2023. The symposium presented by Prof. Dr. Saad Badri Hassoun Farid and it was attended by the Department Head, Prof. Dr. Jawad Kazem Aliwi, and the Director of the Nanotechnology Center, Prof. Dr. Rana Afif Majeed. The symposium discussed heritage aspects include material, intellectual, artistic, creative, and linguistic heritage, in scientific, social, legal perspectives, and the relationship between them and the construction of the Iraqi character. The message conveyed by the symposium emphasized that the national character is constructed through an understanding and adoption of these building elements, not only limited to material heritage, but also on all the elements of the heritage mentioned above. At the end of the symposium, the scientific assistant of materials department expressed gratitude to the lecturer for the valuable presentation and presented a certificate of appreciation in recognition of their efforts.

Abstract
This study aims to prepare novel MAX phases with plausible purity using pressureless sintering and then study microstructure characteristics electrical properties and thermal conductivity of the MAX phase . The novelty of this research is to utilize graphite or single-layer nano-graphene sheet in the structure of the MAX phase including zirconium metal-based MAX phases Zr2AC (A = Aluminum, Tin). And the results The synthesized novel Zr2Al-GNS with purity 49.0 wt % and Zr2Sn-GNS MAX phase with purity 61.2 wt % at 1150 °C and 1300 °C, respectively.

Abstract:
The aim of this work was to fabricate two new types of ultrafiltration membranes (PVDF/MAXphase Ti3ALC2 and PVDF/TiO2-Ti3C2 MXene) and it was implemented by using the in situ modulation technique within phase inversion. In general, TiO2-Ti3C2 was incorporated into wood to reduce hydrophobicity and surface roughness. The distinctive properties invented by MXene were required, such as increased water permeability, effective dye rejection and anti-detection properties, so they proved it as an improved film and sealant material, and they achieved N5 The highest porosity and maximum flows of 538 h2L/m and 467.8 h2L/m (marine submarine and dye solution (EBT) on the toilet, where the hydrophilic N5 showed the highest affinity for Eriochrome black T (EBT) and flow recovery of 100%, which was vastly superior to the other film tested for it.
