Patented

On July 16, 2017, the Central Agency for Standardization and Quality Control granted the patent number 4988 to each of the teachers:

Assist. Prof. Dr. Sehamah Issa Saleh Al-Shalaji and Assist. Prof. Dr. Fadel Abbas Hashem University of Technology / Materials Engineering Department, with Assist. Prof. Dr. Odeh Jabbar Berhi Masoudi / University of Babylon - College Materials Engineering and tagged:

(Fabrication nano polymer composite super absorbent from harmful Eichhornia herb and using in the reinforcement of concrete, combating desertification and Bed of Rheumatism patients)

The patent included the recruitment of the high absorbency status of the harmful Eichhornia herb to be used in the manufacture of nano polymer composite super absorbent, In this process, the damage of this plant has been reduced on the other hand in several applications such as increasing the strength of the concrete and increasing its hardening times (thus facilitating its circulation), and to maintain the warmth of the bed of rheumatism patients for a longer period and to rationalize irrigation water and combat desertification.

Where the cellulose was extracted from the harmful Eichhornia herb and then converted to a soluble derivative, sodium carbonoxide methyl cellulose using appropriate physiochemical and chemical treatments. To manufacture the super absorbent, sodium carbonate methyl cellulose (extracted from the harmful Eichhornia herb) was used with cornstarch and alum as a crosslinking agent and nano-graphite oxide. The behavior of the swelling was studied with different saline solutions concentrations and different PH. The absorption of these compounds showed a significant effect on the pH and a clear decrease with increased concentration of saline solution.

Addition of nano particles increased the absorption of the prepared polymer mixture by 20%. The super absorption composite proved that it can be used in applications of concrete cementation, beds thermal of rheumatism patients for long periods of time, and combating desertification due to its high ability to rationalize irrigation water.

The letter included the use of PVC polyvinyl chloride with the addition of a modified mixture of Graphene oxide and multi carbon nano tube MWCNTs-g-GO using phase inversion. Four polyvinyl chloride membranes were manufactured with the addition of MWCNTs-g-GO at different rates (0,0. 006, 0.12, 0.22). Two polyvinyl chloride  were also fabricated by addition  0.12 (GO, MWCNTs).

It was confirmed that the activation of the acidity of MWCNTs-g-GO, GO and MWCNTs was successful by using the necessary tests. The results showed the appearance of effective groups and interaction between the carbine oxide and the MWCNTs-g-GO.

This thesis had been scientific evaluation by Assistance Prof Dr. Saad Hanash Ammar, Nahrain University, Faculty of Engineering, Department of Chemical Engineering and linguistically by Prof Dr. Arkan Khalkhal Hussein / University of Technology/ Mechanical Department. The discussion of the thesis had been performed at the Fadul Attya hall, and the discussion’s committee agreed to award the student master degree.

The thesis studied using: tiles’ powder, lamps’ glass, gray glass powder, rice peel ash, and two types of wood powder, as partial cement replacement. Various weight fractions,(11,13,15) % had been used with basic plain concrete ,which had (3/1.5/1) mixture (fine aggregate/cement/water), and (0.45) water/cement, with different curing times, (7, 14, 28) days. According to the replacement materials that used 19 categories of specimens included basic mixture concrete (plain concrete) had been prepared with grain size of all mixtures’ ingredients range (75-600) µm. the work’s results show that only few replacement types of those used as partially cement replacement can improve mechanical properties of concrete.

This thesis had been scientific evaluation by assistance Prof Dr.  Aliaa Abas Ali / North Technical University / Technical College and linguistically by Prof Dr. Arkan Khalkhal Hussein / University of Technology/ Mechanical Department. The discussion of the thesis had been performed at the Fadul Attya hall, and the discussion’s committee agreed to award the student master degree.

Research published

The Iraqi Journal of Mechanical Engineering and Materials in Issue No. 2, Vol. 17 of 2017, published two research papers on materials engineering, the University of Technology. Assist. Prof. Dr. Akram Rahim Jabr.

The first research (synthetic and magnetic properties of nickel-ferrite nanoparticles) dealt with the microscopic structure of the fiber produced by the electrospine method for solution polymer (PVP) by addition to nickel nitrate and iron nitrate to formation of fiberglass nanometers nickel-ferrite, which were studied using electronic microscopes SEM and X-ray examination and proved a phase transformation from random to syntactic depending on the temperature of the burn as well as the magnetic flux measured by the magnetic vibration scale.

The second research (Nanocomposite membrane from Titanium Dioxide - Nylon 6 to improve the discharge of salts under low pressure for water filtration of nanotubes) . Study the procedure of the electrospine  Nylon 6 with nano-titanium oxide. The membrane had a nanoscale network with a radius of 123 nm and the properties of the contact angle, wetting, mechanical tensile, water purification, antibacterial and salt repellant were improved.
