-   Dr. Aseel B. Abdel-Hussein and Dr. Kadhim M. Shabib from the Department of Materials Engineering / University of Technology, published scientific research entitled" Study of the effect of glass waste on the mechanical properties of green concrete" by Elesiver on page 119 (680-692)  2017.

The research dealt with the various types of glass waste as recycling of industrial after preparation, grinding and partially replaced by concrete at different concentrations and periods. Mechanical tests showed strong compression strength and toughness at 13% concentration of glass waste.

Glass recycling also reduces carbon dioxide and produces environmental friendly materials.

-   The journal (Eur.Phys.J.Plus) of Physics published scientific paper by Springer entitled:

"Manufacture and characterization of porous calcium carbonate in micro and nanoparticles"

A group of researchers from different countries (Canada, Poland, Iran and Iraq) participated in this research. The participation from Iraq was represented by Dr. Aseel B. Abdul-Hussein from the Materials Engineering Department / University of Technology.

The study deals with the manufacturing of calcium carbonate in micro and nanoparticles, where the properties were studied by X-rays and Fourier transforms. The results showed that the macromolecules have an important role in medical biomedical application.

Synthetic Metals, a journal of the Elesiver publishing company with a high impact factor, has invited Assistant Professor Akram R. Jabr, a academic staff in the department of Materials Engineering / University of Technology, as a scientific reviewer to review its scientific research for the year 2017.

Central Organization for Standardization and Quality Control / Ministry of Planning granted a patent in the number 4863 dated 28/2/2017 to the academic staff in the Department of Materials Engineering / University of Technology (Dr. Aseel B. Abdul Hussain, Dr. Emad Saadi Abdul Karim, Marwa Sobhi Ata-Allah, where the patent was entitled:

"Manufacturing of alternative materials resistant to erosion and corrosion of aircraft structures, ship fans and marine craft consisting of nanomaterial composites"

In this work,  it was prepared an anti-erosion and corrosion-resistant composite consisting of pure polyester  reinforced with (fiber glass, Kevlar fiber, carbon fiber and carbon nanotubes) subjected to the same conditions that the outer parts of the aircraft, ship fans and marine boats exposes,  with similar salinity and fine particles collisions with external structures and so on.

It has been noted significantly that the samples resist degradation, which can be taken advantage of these alternative materials to be cheap, light and anti-corrosion materials under conditions that may be exposed to. Also it can be manufacturing these structures with long life materials more than one time. Also it is clean, green and environmental friendly.

On 2/10/2017 Prof. Dr. Amin Daway Thamir, President of the University of Technology, presented a thankful and appreciation letter No. 122  to Dr. Aseel B. Abdulhussein, Dr.  Dr. Fadhil A. Hashim,  and Eng. Tamara Raad Kadhim in the Department of Materials Engineering due to their patent (manufacture of corrosion-resistant material of nanomaterials for space applications) according to the followed mechanism by the university.
