The Department of Materials Engineering at the University of Technology awarded a master’s degree to researcher Nahzat Osama Kamel on Thursday, March 20, 2025, in the Graduate Studies Hall in building C for her thesis entitled (Improvement PV Cell Efficiency of Thin Film Coating Nano-technology)

This study aimed to fabricate a thin nanostructured film using copper sulfide (CuS) and silver-doped copper sulfide (Ag-doped CuS) on silicon wafers via pulsed laser deposition (PLD). Optical and electrical characterizations were conducted, revealing an increase in light absorption due to plasmonic effects, which reduced transmittance and reflectance. The results showed an improvement in cell efficiency after annealing, highlighting the significant role of doping and annealing in enhancing electrical performance.

The discussion committee consisted of Prof. Dr. Aseel Basem Abdul Hussein as Chairman and the membership of each of Assist. Prof. Dr. Laith Waddah Ismail, Assist. Prof. Dr. Muhannad Najah Jawad. The thesis was supervised by Prof. Dr. Kadhim Matar shbib, Assist. Prof. Dr. Ayad Kazim Hassan. The thesis was also scientifically evaluated by Prof. Dr. Abdul Hadi Kazim Jadran, Assist. Prof. Dr. Muhannad Hamed Musa, and linguistically by Assist. Prof. Dr. Khaled Khadir Abbas.

Prof. Dr. Mayada Shanan Abd, Assist. Prof. Dr. Basma Hashim Muhammad, and Engineer Ali Hussein Abdul Jabbar, faculty members in the Department of Materials Engineering at the University of Technology, published a scientific paper titled(

Microwave-assisted green synthesis of silver nanoparticles using turnip root (Brassica rapasub sp. Rapa) extract and their antibacterial efficacy)

The research was published in the journal Physica Scripta by IOP Publishing, which is included in the Scopus and Clarivate indexes within the first quarter.

This study explored the green synthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) from turnip root extract, comparing microwave and conventional heating. Characterization confirmed crystalline, stable AgNPs with significant antibacterial activity against both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. The research highlights the potential of biosynthesized AgNPs for medical applications.

The first lecture given by Captain Dhu al-Fiqar Muhammad Yusuf entitled "Misuse of Social Media and Electronic Blackmail"

The lecture aimed to clarify the concept of electronic blackmail and shed light on its various types, while discussing its negative effects on individuals and society.

The lecture also reviewed the blackmail methods used by blackmailers and how they exploit modern technology to achieve their illegal goals. In addition to educating attendees on ways to secure digital accounts,

In addition to encouraging attendees to immediately report any cases of blackmail via the unified emergency line 911.

The second lecture, entitled "Family Disintegration and Strengthening Family Ties," was given by Assistant Political Participant Mohammed Sabbar Abbas and the assumed Bahr Falah Hassan. It included domestic violence (its types, causes, and ways to protect society from its dangers), as well as the legal dimension and community police procedures to reduce violence in all its forms. The lecture also included the presentation of awareness-raising film materials produced by the community police, highlighting the negative effects of domestic violence.

The symposium concluded with the awarding of certificates of appreciation to the lecturers by the head of the department.
