Women's Affairs Unit in the Department of Materials Engineering holds an awareness lecture
The Women's Affairs Unit, in cooperation with the Educational and Psychological Guidance Unit in the Department of Materials Engineering, held an awareness lecture within the University Mornings program entitled
"Female Students' Behavior on Campus"
On Thursday, 12/12/2024, at ten o'clock in the morning, in the discussion and conference hall in Building C. The lecture was given by Assist Prof. Dr. Sura Salem Ahmed and Lect. Iman Kazim Hamza, in the presence of the respected Head of the Department, Prof. Dr. Jawad Kazim Aliwi, and the Head of the General Materials Engineering Branch, Assist. Prof. Dr. Jamal Daoud, and a number of first-year female students in the department. The lecture included educating the female student about wearing modest clothing, avoiding extravagance in makeup, and paying attention to personal hygiene, clothing, and relationships between female students themselves or with male students, while emphasizing respect for friendship and fellowship relationships during the study period. At the end of the lecture, the head of the department praised the distinguished efforts made in preparing and delivering the lecture and encouraged communication in holding such events to broaden the horizons of the students. The efforts of the two lecturers were appreciated.

The lecturer Haider Basil Ali from the Department of Materials Engineering at the University of Technology received a scientific promotion from the grade of assistant lecturer to the grade of lecturer for fulfilling all the requirements for scientific promotion, while enjoying all the rights and privileges that this rank entitles him to, according to University Order No. 672 dated 15/12/2024.
Ceramic Engineering and Building Materials Branch Conducts a Scientific Visit
As part of the extracurricular activities of the Ceramic Engineering and Building Materials Branch, and in line with the principle of enhancing the practical and applied knowledge of the students, a group of faculty members from the department, Prof. Dr. Asil Basim, Prof. Dr. Laith Waddah, Prof. Dr. Sura Salem, Prof. Dr. Lama Akram, Eng. Shatha Riyad, Lecturer Hashim Sharif, Lecturer Nizar Jabar, along with a group of students, visited the Military Industrialization Authority/General Military Industries Company on Monday, December 2, 2024.
The group was warmly received by Eng. Sadiq Atiyah Jassim, the Director General of the Department of Military Research and Development, along with other engineering staff, who provided detailed explanations and practical insights into the company's operations.
The visit included tours of several departments, laboratories, and workshops within the company. The students had the opportunity to learn about the types of materials used in manufacturing their products, as well as the non-destructive testing methods and procedures employed to detect defects.
At the end of the visit, the faculty members expressed their appreciation for the efforts made in hosting the group, the excellent reception, and the invaluable knowledge gained from such visits, which contribute significantly to the students' academic and practical expertise in their field.
Department of Materials Engineering Organizes a Scientific Semin

The seminar was presented by Prof. Dr. Asil Basim and Prof. Dr. Mohammed Abdul Hussein, with the attendance of Assistant Dean for Administrative Affairs, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Laith Waddah Ismail, as well as a number of faculty members and students from the department. The seminar focused on the concepts of sustainability and recycling, discussing the processes involved and their significant role in mitigating environmental issues, particularly in water and land pollution. At the end of the seminar, the Assistant Dean praised the distinguished efforts of the presenters in preparing and delivering the lecture, and awarded them certificates of appreciation for their contributions.
Grant a master's degree
The Department of Materials Engineering at the University of Technology awarded a master's degree to the student, Fatima Mohammed Yahya, Department of Materials Engineering / University of Technology, On Sunday, 12/1/2024, for his thesis titled
"Characterization of the Prepared Carbon Noanfibers CNFs as Biomaterials
Abstract:
The study aimed to fabricate modified carbon nanofibers (CNFs) by incorporating carbon nanotubes (CNTs) using the electrospinning technique, followed by stabilization at 275°C and carbonization at 1000°C. The results revealed that the addition of CNTs reduced the shrinkage rate compared to conventional carbon nanofibers. FTIR and XRD analyses confirmed the effectiveness of the stabilization and carbonization processes. Furthermore, Raman analysis showed an improvement in graphitic crystallinity, with a decrease in the ID/IG ratio from 1.2 to 1.1. Additionally, the modified fibers exhibited a lower water contact angle, making them suitable for tissue engineering applications, along with enhanced electrical conductivity.
