A scientific trip

On Thursday, March 31, 2022, the Department of Materials Engineering/University of Technology organized a scientific trip for the second and third stage students to the National Company for Chemical and Plastic Industries under the supervision of the head of the department, Assist. Prof. Dr. Hussein Alaa Jaber and the Head of the branch of General Materials Engineering, Assist. Prof. Dr. Jamal Jalal Daoud, with the presence of a number of the department's teaching staff.

Where the students were briefed on the factories in the company and learned about the stages of production processes for some plastic industries, including the plants for the production of plastic tanks, water cups, single-use dishes, and coolers.

At the end of the trip, the teaching staff and students of the department gave their deepest thanks to the manager of the company, Hadi Murad, for his great and distinguished cooperation during the visit. Mr. Muhammad expressed his willingness to receive the department’s students during the summer training period and to provide any possible assistance for the research of post graduate students or the research of the teaching staff in the department in the service of our dear country.

Abstract

Aim of this study to Preparing a composite materials reinforced with natural particles and fibers which environmentally friendly materials, low cost, available, and have acceptable mechanical properties for use in the manufacture of prosthetic limbs, especially the socket part. Mechanical tests (tensile, bending, and impact) and physical tests (density and water absorption) were carried out. The results showed that when adding (4) layers of Luffa fibers (Lu) and (6) layers of Perlon fibers (P) to the composite material, it led to a significant increase in the mechanical properties, and that the best composite material obtained was when the layers were arranged in order.
