Abstract:
The study aims to improve the interfacial integration between the surface of the implant and living bone to achieve a quick, strong, and stable bond. In this study, one of the most important biocompatible titanium alloys, Titanium-Zirconium, was manufactured using powder metallurgy. The alloy underwent surface coating using biologically active multifunctional materials. The coating process involved three techniques: dip coating, spin coating, and electrospinning. The results showed significantly higher cell survival rates for the electrospinning-coated samples after seven days of cultivation compared to other coated and uncoated samples. The values for PCL/Chitosan/nCaTiO3 reached 271.56%

Abstract:
The study aimed to prepare a composite material containing different weight ratios of magnesium for use in the treatment of maxillary bone decay. A ceramic material with improved mechanical properties consisting of 70 wt.% hydroxyapatite and 30 wt.% cordierite ceramic is manufactured, sintered at 1100°C and then used as a reinforcement phase within a polycaprolactone matrix. Magnesium was added in proportions of 1, 3, 5, 7 wt.% to the composite material for the purpose of evaluating the effect of magnesium on biological performance in vivo and in vitro. The results proved that the presence of magnesium element by 5 wt.% led to an improvement in all biological properties in terms of degradation rate, bioactivity, cell viability, cell attachment in addition to the formation of new bone after 45 days of transplantation, and this is proven by the results of the histological analysis of the bone sample.
After the discussion committee recorded its observations on the thesis, which were divided between explanation, correction, and the student’s defense of her thesis.
At the end of the discussion, the committee decided to evaluate the thesis and decided to grant the student a doctorate degree with a pass grade.

Abstract:
The study aimed to recycle plastic waste (water bottles) to manufacture sustainable partition blocks. The waste was recycled mechanically and chemically. The sample manufacturing process included two steps. The first was mixing recycled waste with bitumen to produce improved bitumen. As for the second step, mixing this improved bitumen at a rate not exceeding 20% with sand and gravel, at a rate not exceeding 80%, in different grades... Among the most prominent results that emerged with us.
There are very moderate compressive mechanical properties, in addition to high sound insulation due to the small plastic particles that have penetrated the mixture, increasing the amount of insulation, in addition to high moisture insulation, since plastic and bitumen have very high insulation
After the discussion committee recorded its observations on the thesis, which were divided between explanation and correction, and the student’s defense of her thesis, and the end of the discussion, the committee sat down to evaluate the thesis, and decided to grant the student a doctoral degree with a pass grade.

Materials Engineering Department Hosts an Awareness Lecture
The Materials Engineering Department, in collaboration with the Continuing Education Center, organized an awareness lecture titled "Methods of Protecting University Students from Deviant Behaviors" on Monday, October 20, 2023, in Room 5 of the Materials Engineering Department. The lecture was delivered by M.Sc. Haneen Rashid Majid in the presence of the department head, Prof. Jwad Kazim Alawi.
The lecture addressed the crucial topic of protecting university students from deviant behaviors, considered one of the most important issues at present due to its psychological, social, and ethical implications that can harm both individuals and society. It also covers serious social dimensions, representing a type of widespread and dangerous unusual deviation. The lecture covered several key points, including understanding the reasons behind the spread of this phenomenon and the environmental, psychological, and social factors contributing to its widespread and dangerous propagation. Additionally, it focused on raising awareness of prevention and treatment methods.
A significant recommendation from the lecture was intensify efforts in conducting awareness and educational workshops on purpose of spreading cultural awareness among university students to prevent deviations behaviors.
At the end of the seminar, the department head expressed gratitude to Ms. Haneen Rashid for her valuable lecture and presented her with a certificate of appreciation in recognition of her efforts."
