The PhD student (Aya Abbas Shaher) discussed her thesis entitled (Effect of Adding Natural Fibers and Nano-Materials on the Properties of Polymethyl methacrylate Used in the Cartilaginous Joints). The discussion was held on the discussions hall / building C / Department of Materials Engineering / University of Technology on Monday(29/4/2024). The discussion committee was formed of the teaching staff listed:

Position in the Committee

Prof. Dr.  Akram Rahim Jabr

Prof. Dr.   Sinai Ibrahim Hussein

Prof. Dr.  Ahmed Fadel Hamza

Assist. Prof. Dr.   Laith Qais Abbas

Assist. Prof. Dr.   Fatima Jaafar Muhammad

Prof. Dr.   Wafaa Mahdi Saleh

Prof. Dr.  Aseel Bassem Abdel Hussein

The thesis was evaluating scientifically by Prof. Dr. Bassem Ajeel Abbas/University of Babylon/College of Engineering/Department of Mechanical Engineering, and Assist. Prof. Dr. Zainab Naif Rasheed/University of Technology/Department of Applied Sciences, and linguistically by Assist. Prof. Dr. Laith Wadah Abbas/University of Technology/Department of Materials Engineering.

The study aimed to manufacture a biomaterial with good mechanical and biological properties from a composite material consisting of PMMA polymeric material reinforced with natural and ceramic nanoparticles using the ultrasonic mixing method in order to use it as articular cartilage. We investigated the effect of adding reinforcement materials on the mechanical, physical, and biological (in vitro and in vivo) properties of PMMA. The study found an improvement in the mechanical and biological properties of PMMA with the addition of natural and nano-ceramic materials.

The thesis discussion was conducted in a scientific atmosphere and a PhD degree with grade of pass was awarded to the student after the completion of all the corrections that have been decided by the examiners.
