Materials Engineering Department, in partnership with the Department of Electromechanical Engineering, and in cooperation with Sadr Al-Afaq Foundation for Development, held an awareness seminar entitled
“The phenomenon of widening desertification in Iraq and its impact on cities”.
And that is on Monday, corresponding to 12/5/2022, at ten o’clock in the morning, and in the Al-Kindi Hall in the Department of Electromechanical Engineering, in the presence of the President of the University, Prof. Dr. Respected Ahmed Mohamed Hassan Al-Ghabban, and Mr. Administrative Assistant, Prof. Dr. Hussein Hamid Karim, the respected and Mr. Head of the Electromechanical Engineering Department, Prof. Dr. respected Hosham Salim Anead, and Mr. Vice President of Sada Al-Afaq Foundation for Development, Dr. Ahmed Yassin, and Head of Materials Engineering Department, Prof. Dr. the respected Hussein Alaa Jaber and the scientific assistant, Prof. Dr. the respected Jawad K. Oleiwi and the administrative assistant, Prof. Dr. the respected Layth W. Al-Gebory. The symposium included the republican salutation, then verses from the Holy Qur’an, and then reading Surat Al-Fatiha on the souls of our righteous martyrs, followed by the speech of the head of the department. The symposium included three lectures.
The first lecture: “Desertification, its causes, and its environmental, economic, and social impacts”, delivered by Dr. Qassim Taban Bazoun/ Ministry of Environment.
The second lecture: “Desertification and its impact on cities”, delivered by Prof. Dr. Ahmed Fayyad Saleh, Al-Mamoun University College/ Department of Geography.
The third lecture: “The risks of drought in Iraq and the climatic water deficit, ways and results, and ways to confront those risks”, delivered by Dr. Hiyam Numan Fleih/ Al-Mamoun University College/ Department of Geography.
At the end of the symposium, certificates of appreciation were distributed to the lecturers and participants in the symposium.
