Defense of master’s student Zaynab Zuhair Ali

A master’s student “Zaynab Zuhair Ali” defended her thesis "Modification of Biomedical Alloys by Nano ZrO2 and Y2O3 Deposition" on Wednesday, January 20th, at the conference room C/ Materials Engineering Department/University of Technology. The Committee included:

  1. Assistant Professor Akram Raheem Jabr as a chair.
  2. Assistant Professor Niveen Jamal Abdulqadir as a committee member.
  3. Dr. Nabaa Sattar Radi as a committee member.
  4. Dr. Fatima Jaafer Muhammad as an adviser.

Dr. Husayn Muhammad Yousif/ Ministry of Industry and Minerals/ State Co. for Steel Industries reviewed and characterized the dissertation by the methods of science, whereas Dr. Zaynab Naief Rasheed / University of Technology/ Applied Sciences Department reviewed the dissertation linguistically to meet the style of English. Congratulations to the student on her graduation.

Abstract:.

The study aimed to  alter the implant surface and make it more effective, vital for medical uses. In the present work, Modifications achieved by deposition Nano zirconia and yttria powders on different titanium-base alloys produced using  powder technology technique ;  Chemical etching pretreatments is done for implant samples (Ti-pure, Ti-45%Ni, Ti-10%Co and Ti-30%Ta) and the deposition process carried out by pack cementation to produced Nano ceramic materials at implant surface. Where the best results of the four alloys were shown in medical tests and their effect in cell viability and adhesion, adding that the deposition process in this way is useful for medical applications, not just industrial.
