Master student discussion (Shahed Thamer Mahmoud)

The Master student (Shahed Thamer Mahmoud) discussed her dissertation entitled ( Preparation of Graphene- Glass Ionomer Cement for Dental Applications). The discussion was held on the discussions hall / building C / Department of Materials Engineering / University of Technology on Wednesday (9/8/2020). The discussion committee was formed of the teaching staff listed:

Position in the Committee

Assist. Prof. Dr. Hussein Ali Jaber

Assist. Prof. Dr. Hala Salman Hassan

Lec. Dr. Fatima Jaafar Mohammed

Prof. Dr. Saad Badri Hassoun

Lec. Dr. Basma Hashem Mohammed

The dissertation was scientifically evaluated by Assist. Prof. Dr. Ahmed Abdul Rahman Al Tabbakh/ Alnahrain University / College of Science, and linguistically by Assist. Prof. Dr. Sameer Ali Amin / University of Technology / Department of Mechanical Engineering.

The discussion of the dissertation was conducted in a scientific atmosphere and a master's degree with grade of pass was awarded to the student after the completion of all the corrections that have been decided by the examiners.

The purpose of this study is to prepare graphene nano sheets from graphite flakes and to improve the properties of the ionomer glass cement by adding different volume fractions of graphene, as the graphene was prepared using the planetary wet ball milling method as a basic method in addition to the use of both ultrasound and centrifugation as assistants. the prepared materials were characterized using various techniques such as (scanning electron microscopy, Raman spectroscopy, XRD) and others.

The results proved the success of the method used to convert graphite into graphene, in addition to improving the properties of the nanocomposite (glass ionomer cement + graphene), specifically at the volume fraction of 0.2% graphene.
